Art Discovery Camp with Justine Pechuzal
Art Discovery Camp with Justine Pechuzal 🦀
Art Discovery Camp with Justin Pechuzal invites young artists to dive into a week of creativity inspired by the wonders of the ocean! Campers will explore marine themes through a thoughtful blend of structured lessons and open-ended artmaking, building new skills while expressing their own unique ideas.
Throughout the week, students will experiment with a variety of mediums—including paint, pastel, watercolor, and colored pencil—while participating in daily drawing exercises focused on sea mammals, tide pool creatures, and the rich beauty of our coastal environment.
As a special extension of the camp experience, students will have the opportunity to have their artwork featured in a community exhibit at the Seward Children’s Museum as part of July’s First Friday Art Walk. This student-led showcase will celebrate the creativity and hard work of our young artists, with artwork remaining on display throughout the month.
Designed for ages 7–10 (or students entering 2nd through 5th grade), this camp offers a fun, supportive space to celebrate both art and our incredible marine habitat—while also giving students the chance to share their work with the broader community.
Dates: June 22–26
Time: 9:00–11:30 AM.
Come create, explore, and be inspired!

Seward Poetry Festival 2026
The Seward Arts Council is proud to present the 2026 Seward Poetry Festival, a vibrant, community-centered celebration of poetry, storytelling, and creative expression taking place April 22–26, 2026.
This year’s festival is especially meaningful as we celebrate the release of the Alaska Literary Field Guide, a rich and evocative collection that explores Alaska through place-based writing. The book brings together voices from across the state, blending poetry, essays, and reflections that highlight Alaska’s landscapes, communities, and lived experiences.
We are honored to welcome featured editors Nancy Lord, Marybeth Holleman and contributors whose work helps shape this remarkable collection. In addition, we are excited to feature a free poetry workshop with Ray Ball.
Throughout the week, festival participants and community members can enjoy a series of readings, workshops, and special events.
The main event on Saturday, April 25 2:00 PM featuring editors Nancy Lord and Marybeth Holleman does not require registration.
Some festival events are intentionally small to foster meaningful connection and conversation. These will require advance registration and may fill quickly. If an event you’re interested in is full, we encourage you to reach out to be added to a waitlist by contacting us at sewardartscouncil@gmail.com

Under Paris Skies
Under Paris Skies - An evening of Gypsy Jazz with Tim Kliphuis & Jimmy Grant
On February 7, 2026, the Seward Arts Council invites you to step Under Paris Skies for an unforgettable evening of music, romance, and virtuosity. Internationally acclaimed violinist Tim Kliphuis and guitarist Jimmy Grant will take the stage for a live concert performance celebrating the timeless tradition of Gypsy jazz.
Born in the cafés and dance halls of 1930s Paris, Gypsy jazz blends swinging rhythms, rich harmonies, and dazzling improvisation. Popularized by legendary musicians like Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, the style is known for its infectious energy, lyrical melodies, and spontaneous interplay between instruments. It’s jazz that feels both sophisticated and joyful, music meant to move you.
Doors Open at 6:00 pm
The evening will feature two 45-minute sets, with a 15-minute intermission, allowing time to soak in the atmosphere before returning for more inspired performances.
Following the concert, guests are invited to a reception at the Gateway Hotel, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet the artists, share a drink, and continue the conversation sparked by the music.
Join us for a night of world-class musicianship, European charm, and community connection—right here in Seward!
